Now, seeing your backing sounds like fun. Let me tell you, it is scary as well. Any fish that is taking you over 100 feet away is not your Average Joe. If the fish makes a turn at 100+ feet away, it can put a belly in your line. That belly is slack line, so the fish has wiggle room to escape with. All I'm trying to say is, next time you see that White Dacron, keep tight on whatever is out on the business end of your line. Good luck out there!
Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will high hole you and catch all your fish.

End of School Fish-A-Thon; Day Three
After another great day at the shop helping customers, I just had to push my luck. Had to work every drop of awesome into my day. Also, had to test out a new reel. As I pulled up to the spot, things were looking good. My first four casts yielded follows or strikes. After that, not much action. I moved over, saw a BIG shadow, and sent a yummy little morsel his way. Boy, did he pounce on that fly hard. And after quite a battle, and the first 20 yards of my backing touching water, I managed to land the fish.

My Co-Fisherman For The Day
Who knew, he really does fish! Howard and I finally got a solid plan together, picked out a time and a place to go fishing, and even a place to meet. I woke up at about 8:30 this morning, got ready, and hopped into my dad's car on his way to work. He dropped me at the shop, gave me some fly money, and headed off. I picked up some Meat Whistles, which are a big fly tied on a jig hook so that it rides hook up. It's above, for those of you trout snobs. Howard arrived a few minutes later, cool fiberglass rod in hand. After a few calls to my parents about, "How exactly do we get there again?" we found ourselves at Pella Crossing. Right as we got to the side of the lake we wanted to fish, I spotted a frog. Thinking it would be a cool thing to post a picture of (like Jay's salamander), I cast my line into the water and grabbed at the frog with my hands. The bending over must have moved my fly and attracted a nearby bass, because I soon felt a tap on my line. Fish on! After a good fight, and some picture taking by Howard, I brought the fish in. Not a huge bass, but a nice one.
I moved on and looked for more fish, and eventually started talking to a nice spin fisherman who was next to us. "Hey J, Come here for a sec." With that, I turned around to see howard fish on. He eventually brought in what I will truthfully admit was the biggest fish of the day.
We fished a little while longer, but it was getting hot and the fish were no where to be seen. We went and picked up some lunch, and drove home. All in all, a great day!

A Day In The Life
I just finished up on a great day at the shop, working on all the odd jobs and chores that could use doing. We got a new pontoon boat, which looks awesome. Actually, the whole shop looks pretty awesome. It's a polar opposite of how it was last year, under some old ownership. Now Chet's the bossman, who is pictured above. He didn't want his picture taken, so I had to trick him into it, hence the confused look. We also washed the windows and trash cans, so the shop looks nice and clean. Yes, we washed the trash cans. With peak season right in front of us, it should be awesome. We've got everything in here, including a large array of hackle. Probably the only shop in the state with a good selection, so come check it out! In fishing news, Boulder Creek is still flying high. It's possible to catch fish with heavy nymphs and streamers, but it's by no means easy. I'll try and get out there tonight and see if I can't raise some fish for pictures. I'll also be out near Deckers this weekend, and hopefully bring home a story. Until then, look at the sweet progress on the mural! Its almost finished!

Swap Day and Book Signing! (And the Boulder Creek Report)
Come one, come all, to the best fly-shop in all of Colorado! Rocky Mountain anglers is going to be having a few very cool events here in the next few weeks. First of all, we will be having our annual swap day on May 21st. This is a great place to sell some of your somewhat used gear to people in need of cheaper equipment! It's also a great place to find gear if your a newbie, or just want some less expensive stuff. Check out below to see some details about the swap. Good items to sell would be things such as rods, reels, vests, tying equipment, and books. The second event we have coming up is a book signing! Well known fly-fishing author John Gierach will be at the shop May 28th to sign books. He is a great guy, and his writing is fantastic. If you haven't read any of his books, I highly recommend them. Come check it out! In other news, Boulder creek is still fishing great. I would recommend a dry dropper rig with any combination from my "Best Flies to Fish on Boulder Creek" list in my homepage.
Tight Lines!

2. Items must be put on swap receipt and tagged with RMA rod tags
